At Divine Help, we understand that lasting recovery and emotional stability require more than therapy alone. Our Basic Skills & Life Skills Training Program is designed to equip male youth ages 8–17 with the practical tools they need to function successfully at home, in school, and in their communities.
Through structured guidance, hands-on instruction, and individualized support, we help young males develop essential skills that promote independence, accountability, and long-term success.
WHY LIFE SKILLS TRAINING MATTERS
Many youth experiencing mental health or substance use challenges struggle with daily routines, organization, communication, and responsibility. Without support in these areas, frustration and setbacks can increase.
Our program bridges that gap by teaching practical, age-appropriate skills that strengthen:
- Self-confidence
- Emotional regulation
- Social awareness
- Personal responsibility
- Executive functioning
- Healthy decision-making
We focus on real-world application — not just instruction, but practice.
PROGRAM COMPONENTS
- Hygiene & Personal Self-Care Skills
We teach youth how to establish consistent daily hygiene routines, understand the importance of grooming, and take pride in personal presentation. These foundational skills promote dignity, self-esteem, and social confidence.
- Socialization & Peer Interaction Development
Positive peer relationships are essential during adolescence. Our program supports youth in building healthy friendships, understanding boundaries, managing peer pressure, resolving conflicts appropriately, and practicing teamwork and cooperation.
- Communication Skills Training
Effective communication reduces behavioral challenges and strengthens relationships. Youth learn to express thoughts and emotions clearly, practice active listening, use respectful language, and manage anger and frustration constructively.
- Parent Education & Family Support
Family involvement strengthens outcomes. We provide parents and caregivers with practical behavior management strategies, communication tools, ongoing progress updates, and support in reinforcing skills at home.
- Independent Life Skills Development
As youth mature, independence becomes increasingly important. We focus on decision-making skills, problem-solving strategies, accountability and follow-through, and preparing for age-appropriate independence.
- Household Management Training
Youth participate in hands-on learning that includes cleaning and organizing living spaces, basic meal preparation, understanding shared responsibilities, and respecting personal and communal property.
- Safety Awareness & Crisis Planning
Safety is essential. We teach youth how to recognize triggers and warning signs, develop personalized coping strategies, create crisis and safety plans, and seek help appropriately when needed.
- Organizational & Executive Functioning Skills
Executive functioning challenges are common among youth facing mental health struggles. We provide structured support in goal setting, task initiation and completion, improving focus, reducing impulsivity, and following multi-step directions.
- Time Management Strategies
Youth learn how to prioritize responsibilities, create and follow routines, balance school, home, and recreational activities, and manage deadlines effectively.
